Letter from VC to Technical Director

Hyderabad: Polytechnic pass outs of the first batch at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad are being subjected to discrimination by Dept. of Technical Education Officials, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh.

According to the Principal Polytechnic these students are being denied admission (lateral entry) into B.Tech Courses like pass outs of other polytechnics despite clearing the E-CET 2011.

The Vice-Chancellor has written two letters dated 30th March & 15th May 2011 to the Commissioner, Dept. Of Technical Education, Dr. P. Lakshmi Narayan IAS, in this regard. However, he is yet to receive any reply.

In a third letter sent July 15, the Vice-Chancellor, reiterates that the Government of India under Sachar Committee Recommendations to improve economic situation of Minorities has sanctioned 3 polytechnics to our university, one each at Hyderabad, Bangalore and Darbhanga (Bihar) to start the Polytechnic programmes immediately.

The Government of India has also sanctioned grants for infrastructure, staff positions etc along with the approval. The programmes were commenced in the year 2008.

The first batch of students are now passed out in the current academic year (2011). They had applied for admission into B.Tech programmes for lateral entry through E-CET-2011. Some of them qualified the entrance exam and received rank cards also.

However, the students reported that the concerned officials at the counselling have denied admission to them on 14th July 2011.

The reason stated by them is that the Polytechnic of MANUU is not recognised by AICTE.

The Vice-Chancellor made it clear that, the Central Universities do not need AICTE approval for starting any technical course. However, they only need to adhere to the standards prescribed by the AICTE.

There is also a Supreme Court directive that the Universities, being autonomous can offer technical programmes without taking prior from AICTE. To avoid inconvenience to MANUU students, the Vice-Chancellor has requested the Commissioner Technical Education to give suitable orders to the concerned officials to admit them in B. Tech/B.E. programmes along with other students.
